Writing Fearlessly: It’s All About Showing Up

The willingness to show up changes us. It makes us braver each time. -Brené Brown

Welcome to Fear-Free Friday!

If you’re working on your first or your next non-fiction book, and you’re finding it hard to write the next chapter, the next section, the next paragraph or, Heaven forbid, the next sentence…

Cast off your fear.

Cast off your limiting beliefs.

Cast off your negative thoughts.

Take a deep breath….

Exhale…

Show up.

Show up for yourself.

Show up for your book.

Show up for your reader – the person for whom your book is their survival guide.

Then start writing.

Here’s the beautiful rule that only applies on Fear-Free Fridays…

It doesn’t matter what you write. It only matters that you write.

Now, if you want to cheat, like I often do, then apply this rule to the rest of the week as well.

If you do…

You will be amazed at how freely your writing sessions begin when you don’t saddle yourself with limits about what kind of words must show up.

At the start of any writing session my very last concern is with the quality of the words.

At that point, my only concern is with the quantity of them… because the sooner I get that pump running freely, the sooner the good words can bubble up to the surface.

Try it.

It doesn’t matter what you write. It only matters that you write.

And see if this frees your mind and your fingers to work the magic they were born for!
