With Self-Discipline Most Anything Is Possible

-Theodore Roosevelt

Self-discipline can be defined as:

  • doing what I know I must do
  • when I know it needs to be done
  • whether I feel like it or not

My definition of self-discipline is living in personal integrity, which simply means

  • doing what I say I will do
  • when I say I will do it
  • whether I feel like it or not

Are you sensing a theme here?

The key principle of self-discipline is found at the end of both statements.

“…whether I feel like it or not.”

Whether your dream is writing and publishing a book that helps your ideal reader or winning a big promotion or any other worthy goal, success in any endeavor boils down to these seven words.

“…whether I feel like it or not.”

If I can comprehend the notion that my feelings toward what must be done are irrelevant, then maybe, just maybe, I’ll do I what I committed to doing, when I committed to do it.

My personal feelings toward the task don’t matter.

My inspiration or lack thereof doesn’t matter.

What matters is I do the next task that will move me one step closer to turning my dream into reality.

The same is true for you.

What matters is that you do the next thing on your list that will move you one step closer to turning your dream of writing a book into your published reality.
