Grab your notebook and pen, flip to a new page and divide the page into two columns.

Ask yourself why you think you “should” write a book. List your answers on the left side of the page.

What are the benefit(s) you want from for writing your book?

Do you want to be perceived as a leader in your area of expertise?

Do you want to solve a problem for someone?  A problem you suffered with until you found a solution?

Write down every possible benefit that comes to mind.

Next, what are the costs of NOT writing your book? Write your answers in the right column.

What opportunities will you miss?

What benefits will you never see if you don’t write your book?

What will it cost you psychologically and emotionally?

Dig into every aspect of your life and list anything that you’ll miss out on if you don’t write it.

Circle every benefit that excites you and circle every cost you refuse to pay.

Does this combination of benefits and costs give you a clear answer?
