The saddest and most depressed people I know are those without a purpose for their life. With no reason for getting out of bed in the morning, they dread the day every single day.
When you’re lit up with purpose, you can’t wait to get out of bed in the morning because you have too much to accomplish to waste another minute in bed.
Purpose is found in service to others.
No matter what you do to earn a living, if you’re not serving others in some capacity, you probably also don’t feel fulfilled most of the time.
Serving others is why we are put on this earth. Selfish people always need more. One more car, one more book, one more whatever.
Selfish people are never satisfied because they can never fill up the void inside their hearts with more stuff. Click To TweetThe only way to fill the emptiness in your heart is to be of service to others. As an author, that means I must write a book that helps one reader transform their life from the state it’s in when they find my book, to a freer, more resilient and grateful state once they apply the principles of my book to their life.
This is true for every author no matter what you write.
Fiction authors, if you don’t weave a story that grabs ahold of your reader, forces them to read every page and ends with them begging for more, you failed that reader.
The same is true for non-fiction authors like me and perhaps like you.
If my words don’t engage and empower my reader to improve their life in some way, I failed my reader.
This is why I push myself to become a better writer and a better human being every single day.
Only when I demand the very best of myself can I dare you to do the same.
