Editing your work is a process of ruthless cutting away of imperfections until your manuscript pours its energy into the heart of your reader.
Editing is a totally different mindset than writing. It requires distance from your manuscript, both psychologically and in time, so you can view it through dispassionate eyes.
It’s a process of continuous improvement where you must objectively evaluate every sentence to ensure it serves your book’s highest calling.
But once your first draft is complete, once you know what your book is really about, it’s time to let your Infernal Editor help you.
He or she will tell you which sentences work and which don’t. They’ll tell you when something is misplaced. They’ll force you to make the tough choices required so you can refine your thinking and your words until they are crystal clear for your reader.
No sentence or paragraph is perfect.
