Stupidity is easily cured with information and education.
Pride in one’s ignorance (stupidity) is far more insidious and dangerous.
It’s also far harder to cure because the pridefully stupid person lacks the willingness to learn.
Thankfully, it’s easy to test for this character failure in ourselves.
When you present an idea to someone and they contradict you with evidence to the contrary, what is your first emotional response?
Do you feel angry and upset? Do you find yourself yelling, as if sheer volume can make your position true?
If so, it’s possible you’re embracing the “stupidity” Edit Sitwell talks about in this quote.
Human beings are capable of learning, but our challenge is one of willingness, not capability.
Willingness to learn is the key here, as it is in so many areas of life, including writing.
For example, I boldly stand behind the statement that writing a book is easier, faster and more joyous when I start a detailed outline.
I spent two decades refusing to start with a detailed outline because “I knew” spending my valuable time building an outline wasn’t necessary and would only stop me from writing my book.
Once I finally became open to the possibility that writing a book from a detailed outline might be a better way, I experimented to see if it was true. I also read everything I could find on the subject.
My education and personal experience proved this statement to be true. For me.
If you’re working on your first book, I encourage you to start with a detailed outline because it’s the fastest and easiest way to get my book written.
To that end, tomorrow morning at 10am Pacific I’m teaching a free 5-day course on designing your Roadmap for Success, which includes how to construct a detailed outline for your book in about an hour.
That’s the final piece of your Roadmap for Success.
Tomorrow morning we’ll start with the Author’s Mindset because when you have the right mindset for writing your book, everything else falls into place effortlessly.
If this sounds interesting to you, go to ChristianAuthorUnstuck.com and sign up for this free 5-day workshop.
When you show up #live (or watch the replay) and do the success work I’ll assign, by Friday afternoon you will have a complete Roadmap for Success so you can write and publish your non-fiction book this year.
