When you don’t know what to write play FreeCell

As silly as it sounds FreeCell is one of my favourite writing procrastination tools.  I can successfully step away from my writing for a few minutes while still challenging my brain to be creative and solve a problem.  And isn’t that what writing is all about?  We writers must be creative and we must solve problems practically every minute we write.  It’s just what we do.

christophers-freecell-win-streakAs you can see by the image I am quite successful at using FreeCell as a distraction from my actual work.

It’s not easy to win 223 games in a row (and counting) but it can be done if you write enough.  🙂

While I mostly write this tongue-in-cheek there is some value to challenging your brain when you take a break from writing.  That every game of FreeCell is theoretically solvable makes for an interesting challenge.

At least it does for my brain.  Your mileage, as with all my writing tips and suggestions, may vary.  If you have some form of procrastination that helps you when you’re writing please share it in the comments below.  I’d be curious to try something new for a change!
