I chose this quote – not because I agree with the first half of it – but because I know authors who feel precisely this way about deadlines.
They hate them.
I don’t understand that mindset, because a deadline forces me into action.
At its core, the deadline – a specific time frame to accomplish a specific task – is the scribe’s very best friend. Assuming, of course, the scribe’s ultimate desire is to present a finished work to the world.
Without a series of deadlines - set and met - your book will never be written, let alone published. Share on XLast Thursday I shared a simple system to drive you into action; to force you to accomplish more than you think you’re capable of in far less time than you’re comfortable with.
My rationale? Simple. We are all – you, me and the author next door – are all capable of far more than we believe we are. And this isn’t limited to writing. This is a life-long and life-wide truth.
In any area of your life, you are capable of orders of magnitude more than you’re doing today.
The proof is in last week’s exercise. If you missed that video, I encourage you to watch it next and complete the exercise I gave.
Don’t just read it or listen to me describe it.
Do it.
Prove to yourself that a specific deadline drives you into action too.
