Character is your integrity, your motives, and your intentions.

Character is your ability to act ethically and transparently.

Character is your willingness to communicate honestly and openly.

Competence is your capabilities and skills.

Competence is your ability to write effective copy, conduct research, and communicate your ideas clearly and persuasively.

To increase your competence, implement systems and habits to build your skills and expertise. Education is key.  The more you learn about the writing craft, the more you can add to your daily writing routine.

Seek constructive feedback from other writers and editors. That helps too.

But all of this rests on the foundation of your character.
