Thriving Under Pressure: How Deadlines Catapult Your Writing Success

Like all writers, my greatest inspiration, my ultimate muse, is a deadline. -Dave Barry

Deadlines can be a powerful motivating force for you – if you embrace them with courage and tenacity.

The closer a deadline is in time, the more power it builds inside you.

Your character determines if you will unleash this power so you can do what is required to meet or beat your deadline.

I use deadlines to force me to focus my intellect, skills and creativity to get it done.

I strive daily to beat my deadlines, big and small, if only to prove to myself that I can.

Set a clear deadline for your writing project.

Prioritize each stage of your writing project, then schedule hard deadlines on your calendar for each one. Share on X

KEY: Make your deadlines uncomfortably close.

Go from “Yeah, I can do it” to “I’m not sure I can”.

You can, and you will, because your best work is done outside your comfort zone.

What you’ll discover, just as I have over the course of writing and publishing 50 books, is that you are capable of far more than you think you are.

Apply the correct pressure to focus your entire being on the task at hand.
