Professional Development, Self-Improvement, Personal Development… Call it what you like.

There is always more to learn, no matter what you want to accomplish in life.

No matter your skill level, you can (and should) learn something new so you are a better writer, a better spouse, a better employee, a better human being, etc.

If you want to grow as a writer, the most effective way is to develop the passion for learning.

Read books and take courses on how to be a better writer. Pick an area that you’re weakest in, and make it your superpower. Then pick your next weakest area and repeat the process.

The more well-rounded your author skillset becomes, the more easily and more deeply you will connect with your ideal reader.

This is also where personal development work is critical. Unless you are able to connect deeply with yourself, with the painful moments that made you who you are, you will never be able to connect deeply with that pain in your readers.

When you do this, you will quickly develop raving fans because your perfect fit reader knows – deep in his or her soul – that you understand them because you are them.

“No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.”

―Robert Frost

And the unexpected benefit of all this work is your writing becomes so much more fulfilling for you, as well.
