The Deadline – a time limit for the completion of your first draft – is an excellent tool that provides inspiration and motivation so you can get your first draft finished.
But how do you set an achievable deadline for your first draft?
I answer this question with Manuscript Math, because it’s a great tool that will kick open the doors of possibility and show you that yes, you can write your first draft far faster than you ever imagined.
- 1. Decide how long your manuscript should be.
- 2. Determine how much time you can devote to writing each day
- 3. Determine your writing speed – how many words you write per hour
- 4. Deadline = Manuscript Length / (Words Per Hour x Hours Per Day)
It’s also one of my favorite pieces of the writing puzzle to teach.
If you don’t have one yet, or don’t know what that is, join me on December 12th for UNSTUCK: the free 5-Day Workshop for Christian Non-Fiction Authors.
