Day 91: My Faith Strengthens Me

Faith is a beautiful and empowering thing, even if you don’t believe in God in any traditional sense.

The 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous speak of the necessity of believing in a “power greater than ourselves.”

This “Higher Power” can take many forms. For example, the power and wisdom of a group of people is always greater than the sum of the individuals who make up that group.

If you believe in the God of the Bible, this is even easier.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” -Philippians 4:13

If you don’t believe in God, this may be more challenging. If that describes you, my encouragement for you today is to – at a bare minimum – have faith in yourself and your abilities.

Without faith in yourself, getting to the mountaintop of your vision for your life will be extremely difficult.

In my experience, most of the time I spend working on a new book is spent running on blind faith.

I don’t possess the skills, abilities or attitude yet, or at least not at the level I think I need, to succeed.

Faith is essential to my success as a writer, and as a human being.

Faith gives us the courage to do the “impossible.”

The most courageous act I can perform on any given day is to start where I am, with what I have, and do my best to move forward.

That’s probably true for you, too.

The Bible speaks of courage 22 times, typically using the phrase “Be Strong and of Good Courage.”

Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid…”

Be fearless and courageous.

You don’t need to be a Christian to know this is good advice.

How will you apply the power of faith to your writing life this week?  Share in the comments!
