Day 205: Sylvia Plath – I love my rejection slips

I love my rejection slips. They show me I try. -Sylvia Plath

I love my rejection slips. They show me I try.

A rejection slip from a publisher – book, magazine or newspaper – does NOT mean your writing sucks, nor does it mean you’re broken or that you’re a bad writer.

It simply means the editor who appreciates your work was not found at that address.

So do like Stephen King and so many other successful authors did I the early days.

Pound a nail in the wall and hang your rejection slips on it.

This particular piece of writing didn’t find its inevitable and loving home at this address.

That’s all.

I advocate writing every day because your daily writing habit guarantees you will become a far better writer in far less time than the person who writes only once or twice a week – if the mood strikes and the stars align.

When I first began shooting daily live video, I was not comfortable in front of the camera. I spent an entire career behind the scenes doing everything I could to NOT be on camera.

This new path required me to erase almost two decades of programming and rewrite my mind with a new thought: Daily live video is the new normal.

If I only shot one video each week I would, at best, film 52 videos in a year.

My commitment to shoot a new video every day, meant I would film those 52 videos in 52 days – not 365. Over the course of a single year, I shot SEVEN times more videos than the person shooting one per week.

This was intentional. I needed to get better and more comfortable in front of the camera FAST.  The fastest way I was to do it every single day.

The same is true for your writing.

The FASTEST way to become a better writer is to write every single day - whether you feel like it or not. Click To Tweet
