I Attribute My Success To This: I Never Gave Up Or Took An Excuse

Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale was in the business of saving lives. She did this in two primary ways:

  1. Improving hygiene in recovery wards, and
  2. Maintaining the spirits of those under her care as “The Lady with the Lamp” who made rounds of wounded soldiers every night.

She figured out what needed to be done and did it herself or delegated it to someone else.

Like all great visionaries, she wasn’t very tender with the feelings of others. She didn’t have time for that. She had a world to change.

She never gave an excuse for what she did or did not do, nor would she accept an excuse from others.

Excuses are a waste of everyone’s time. Florence Nightingale knew it, hence her famous quote.

Excuses are also evidence of a lack of integrity and/or lack of willingness to accept responsibility for one’s actions or lack thereof.

You’ll hear me talk about personal integrity a lot.

I will do what I say I will do

When I say I will do it

Whether I feel like it or not

Make no excuses.

Accept no excuses either.

When you live your life staying true to that sentiment, everything else becomes so much easier.
