Day 143: Ralph Waldo Emerson – An Ounce of Action

An Ounce of Action is Worth a Ton of Theory -Ralph Waldo Emerson

An Ounce of Action is Worth a Ton of Theory

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Taking action, no matter how imperfect it may be, always trumps theory.

Only by taking action will you learn where you can improve.

Only by taking action will you learn new ways of succeeding.

Only by taking action will your book finally get written and published.

No amount of theory can make that happen.

To write and publish your book, you must do the simple, the boring, the mundane thing - you must write each day. Click To Tweet

Your published book boils down to this simple action, repeated each day until your book is complete.

The easiest and simplest way to start is to… start.

We want it to be more complicated than that so we can make more excuses to procrastinate – whether out of fear or laziness or some combination of both.

Imperfect action is the key, no matter where you are in the writing process.  Your book will never be perfect. Never.

So do the thing that’s put in front of you to do, right now.

Write.

When your first draft is complete, revise it.  Then revise it again.

After your third round of revisions is complete and you’re still not willing to publish your book, ask yourself what you’re afraid of – because something is preventing you from taking the next logical action.

Figure that out, then publish your book.

It’s the only way you will make the impact in the world you know you were born for.
