If you want to take the island, then burn your boats. With absolute commitment comes the insights that create real victory.

-Tony Robbins

“Absolute commitment” is the level of motivation required to ensure you will do whatever it takes, without exception, to achieve your stated goal.

If your goal is to conquer South America, then Hernán Cortés’ order to burn the ships and remove his troops’ escape route makes sense.

His troops were now “properly motivated” because their literal survival depended upon total mission success.

To sell your published book, you must be properly motivated.

At a minimum, your motivation must greater than your apathy and your natural inclination to procrastinate.

Your commitment to your success must be absolute, without a safety net of any kind. If you have a Plan B, you will use it when the going gets a little rough.

Solution: Burn Plan B.

What does “burning your boats” like for you?

  • In writing your book?
  • In publishing your book?
  • In marketing your book?

Apply this concept to every aspect of your book’s life, from blank page to finished first draft to published book, and onward to bestselling book.

Your success begins and ends with your commitment to it.

So burn the boats, in whatever way that manifests in your life.
